9/8 – Tuesday
Today was spent getting to know the students and getting the students
to understand the workings of the classroom.
My first task of the day was to attempt to go outside and help the
students find their lines to enter the building. That project was a
mess. All of the members of the school out directing traffic and
students had no cohesive plan to make it happen. The bell rang and I
ended up standing by the classroom destination sign and helping kids
finding their rooms.
Parents were also taking pictures of their students with the new
teacher, this was a totally alien concept to me and I was even asked
to stand with the student.
I spent the morning observing, my MT started the day off with
explaining her expectations for lining up and going to PE (the
beginning of the day and the students don’t stay in our room). She
emphasized quietly pushing in the chairs and quietly standing in line.
If there was excess noise, the students had to all sit down and start
all over again. Second time was a charm. The students were then
given the expectation on quietly walking to the PE room.
We met them after PE and took them up to the classroom for 20 more
minutes (Stupid recess plan) then it was a blur for me to try and keep
track of time vs. recess taking and collecting, lunch, and leaving.
There were abnormal signs by some students when they wrote or drew
super tiny. I was told that those might be signs of abuse.
We did some writing and reading assessments, and we were able to only
assess one third grader and she was at the 5 th grade reading level.
It seems so hard to get the QRI’s read to us by the students and the
assessments done in general.
